2 major reasons:
- It was stylish. (LOL)
- And it was made famous by Germans who fought in WWI.
During WWI, his mustache wasn’t always like that (toothbrush mustache). However; his gas mask failed to seal properly with his normal mustache. So he was ordered to trim it.
The problem wasn’t the mustache, it was the gas mask because after he trimmed his mustache, he still did not have a good seal.
Hitler was extremely proud of his service during WWI, and he wore that mustache to show he was a frontline soldier during WWI. Many Germans veterans of the war had that mustache to show that they were in WWI.
So Hitler kept it. Hitler also kept it for stylish reasons. He predicted that the mustache will be stylish because he wore it. He was right about one thing. This mustache is now referred to as the Hitler Mustache rather than the Toothbrush Mustache.
